واغنَّ معسول المراشف أشنبٍ

صان الجمال بهجرةٍ وتجنُّبِ

The singer of sweet verse grew silent and shy

Preserving beauty by keeping apart and avoiding

يبدو وللخيلان في وجناتهِ

معنى يحيّر ناظرَ المتعجّب

In his plump cheeks the horses appear to hold

A meaning perplexing the admiring gazer

وجهٌ كما سفر الصباح لثامه

فعلام فيه بقيةٌ من غيهب

A face like the dawn throwing off its veil

So why is a remnant of night left in it?
