You rise above the stars and the eternal spheres,

For you have attained all good and goodness,

And you have composed the most sublime verses,

Like the composition of days in a necklace of months.

If only the stars could bear it, they would visit you,

And the rain clouds would give freely scattered pearls,

The lands of earth would journey to your abode,

Yearning, were it not for the inability to voyage.

What do your enemies claim in the dwellings,

At the meadows, and on the day of wailing?

Is it your beauty in their eyes, your bounty at hand,

Or your awe implanted in their hearts?

Each day is the day of doves taking wing,

Giving freely - it is the day of resurrection,

O answerer of supplication and frustrator of enemies,

Reliever of distress and mender of rifts!

You have wisdom - were it claimed by an insignificant man

Seeking to attain glory by meager means -

    Smiling amidst swords by tears,

    And hawks above hawks.

The dust swirling at dawn is like musk

    Opened and dispersed in camphor,

You have illuminated the darkness of time,

With a light that glowed above all lights.

Beauty would not have praised you unanimously,

Were it not for the whiteness of your front teeth,

And the whiteness of your face is still enhanced

By the blackness of your hair.

If the palace folk competed with you in glory and joy,

The palace folk would be outdone.

Grand gifts seem paltry to you,

We are inclined to the insignificant and petty,

Just as the moth lives for the lantern,

When it misses the glow of lightning.

If I were to send the world itself to you,

It would be but a drop in the sea.

You have forgiven fully and shown piety,

Now you are like the famed swift sword,

The creation equals you - the strong like the weak, the rich like the poor,

You have, in your two states, the justice of fate,

A duty with which prayers are fulfilled.

No army has harmed a city where you reside,

    Nor a wall been demolished.

Its night is like the Night of Power,

Its days are days of bliss and joy.

Do you see your white battleships? They thought

To mend a breach, but breached a breach.

Or did they think the spears were the reddish poles

Of tents, swaying, and the blood like wine?

So they came in their haste trembling,

Like the heart of an abandoned lover,

Scattering inspiration about you, composing praise,

Then excuse my composition and scattering.

So welcome the little, extend the pardon,

And thereby enrich the poem of the grateful admirer.
