The most beautiful eyes, their alluring glances are swords,

So I obeyed them when prohibition forbade desire,

How strange that they love and kill others without blood money,

And devastate hearts while yearning for them,

They fell asleep without complaining, so is there a trick,

If complaining benefits the one who complains?

Awaken their languid eyelids and beware,

For melancholy is to be awake with awareness,

Moan to them after old age and youth,

And the way of fresh passion is to moan,

They said you acted foolishly, yes I acted foolish in youth,

And love never left the forbearing one foolish,

They blamed the soft, bending rod,

While the full moon is complete and the sand dune shifts,

And those who find fault walked away with what I concealed,

A teardrop inclined to fortitude in sorrow and ecstasy,

I tried to restrain my tears but they flowed rebelliously,

For tears are the most disobedient when restrained,

Task the sleepless vigilance of my burning eyelids,

With their grey wakefulness, that they may rest,

With them the lover's liver turned grey, and yet,

It turned grey when the one craving youth spurned me,

Oh my critic, you exhausted a slender body,

Burdened, and a heart inclined to beauty,

You were harsh when you knew who I loved,

And ignorant of what split the heart and what bent it,

Why should I not suffer? It is as if I say,

The beloved is not far above their likeness,
