  1. ليلةٌ خفَّفت من الهمّ عنَّا

    بثقيلٍ مستحسنٍ وخفيفِ

    A night that lightened our cares for us

    With pleasant heaviness and lightness

  2. عفّ عنا الزمان فيها وما زا

    ل عنيفاً لولا لقاء العنيف

    Time forgave us in it and did not become

    Violent except for the meeting of the violent

  3. بحر علمٍ ما شأنه عارض الجزر

    وبدرٌ ما شابه بكسوف

    A sea of knowledge, its condition is high tide

    And a full moon not marred by eclipse

  4. ولنا من معاطف الغيد واللح

    ظ رماحٌ محميَّة بسيوف

    And we have coats of mail and armor

    With protected spears and swords

  5. لو لقينا بها العِدى لغنينا

    عن ظبى الهند والرّماح الهيف

    If we met the enemies we would suffice

    Without the antelope of India or light spears

  6. وهزمنا بها الألوف كما في ا

    مال من شأنهنَّ هزم الألوف

    And we would defeat thousands with them, as is

    Customary for them to defeat thousands
