I rode the sea, as if it were an arena,
And the waves seemed to me galloping steeds.
As though spirits had loosed their reins,
Now scattering white foam, now gathering.
All creatures exult when their life exults,
Save the breeze that exults for an hour then languishes.
How many ravens of severance are black
Yet fly with wings white as cotton.
