1. أيها الكامل المروءة والمفحم

    فضلاً أولي القوافي الفصاح

    O you of perfect nobility and virtue,

    Superior in eloquence and poetry,

  2. والذي غاب حين غاب سروري

    بدا لي فلاح نجم الفلاح

    He whose absence has taken away my joy,

    Seemed to me like the rising star of success,

  3. أحسن الصنع مشهداً ومغنياً

    فمراحي حمى رؤوس الرماح

    Doing good in speech and song,

    My horses were heated from the spearheads,

  4. وكفاني حث المطي فقد أحـ

    ـسن حتى إلى المطايا الطلاح

    And riding them was enough for me, as they excel

    Even the racing camels,

  5. بلغ السيد الأجل ضياء الديـ

    ـن قاضي القضاة ترب السماح

    May the Master live long, the light of faith,

    Judge of judges, nurtured by benevolence,

  6. ماجد زينت العلى بنداه الجم

    زين الأجسام بالأرواح

    Majid adorned the high with his flags,

    Beautifying bodies with spirits,

  7. وحمى عزمه الممالك حتى

    لزهدنا في المرهفات الصفاح

    And his resolve protected the kingdoms,

    Until we cared little for ornate swords,

  8. صاحب البيت أشبه البيت محجو

    ج كثانيه من جميع النواحي

    The owner of the house resembles it, splendid,

    Perfect in all aspects,

  9. وابن من سعيهم إذا ما أدلهم الد

    دهر بادي الحجول والأوضاح

    And son of those whose efforts guided them

    When time uncovered its secrets,

  10. لطفوا والزمان فظ وجادوا

    بالأماني في الليالي الشحاح

    They were gentle when times were harsh,

    And generous with wishes in barren nights,

  11. إنني بالغ به الشرف العلوي

    سبقاً على جناح النجاح

    I have attained through him the highest glory,

    Soaring on wings of success,

  12. ومباهٍ بمدحه في البرايا

    نكت السحر في عيون الملاح

    And I am proud to praise him in the wild,

    Composing poetry in sailors' eyes,

  13. سوف أجلو على معاليه من نظـ

    ـمي بنات الإيجاز والإفصاح

    I will reveal about his excellencies

    Concise and eloquent verses,

  14. كل غراء يرقص السمع إذ تنـ

    ـشد رقص السلاف في الأقداح

    Pure wine that dances the hearing, as

    It dances clear in goblets,

  15. هي أخت المدام نطفاً وإن كا

    نت صفاء أخت الزلال القداح

    It is the sister of liquor, though

    It is pure as the sister of still water,

  16. فبإحسانه هديت إلى القو

    ل وأهديت كل خود رداح

    With his kindness I was guided to speak

    And gifted to restrain all anger,

  17. ومن العجز أن أضل وقد سار

    بي البدر في ضياء الصباح

    It is weakness that I stray when

    The full moon has lit my morning,
