دمعي بتلك الطُّول مطلولُ

لمَّا نأتْ عينها المطافيلُ

My tears are pouring down continuously

Whenever her eyes get inflamed

يبكي بها الغيث وهي باسمةٌ

بخدها للقبولِ تقبيل

The rain weeps with it while it is cheerful

Kissing her cheeks receptively

لا تحسبوا الدارَ غيرَ ناطقةٍ

حديثها بالنسيم منقول

Do not think the house is non-speaking

Its conversation with the breeze transmitted

لذاك أنفاسهُ معطرةٌ

وذيلهُ بالدموع مبلول

That's why its breaths are fragrant

And its trails with tears saturated

أيُّ جسومٍ ولا نفوسَ بها

أيُّ حنايا ولا تماثيل

No bodies or souls within it

No coquetries or statues

ففي جُفوني كسلوتي قصرٌ

وفي الليالي كلوعتي طول

So in my eyelids is my laziness, a palace

And in the nights is my burning, prolonged

ولستُ أنسى خَيال خنساءَ والص

صبحُ لطرفِ الظلام تحجيل

And I do not forget the imagination of Khensa

The dawn for the edge of darkness a rooster's crowing

والفجرُ تهفو في الجو رايتهُ

والبرقُ سيفٌ عليه مسلول

And the dawn clouds clamor in the air its banners

And the lightning a sword over it unsheathed

ما عقدتْ حبوة اللقاءِ بها

إلاّ وخيطُ الصَّباح محلول

The knot of meeting with her tied

Only for the thread of dawn to untie

نومي وبرهانُ ذاك نعستها

في شعراتِ الجفون محبول

My sleep and the proof of her drowsiness

In the hair of eyelids intertwined

أحبُّ رمحَ القوام عن ثقةٍ

أني بهِ إن حييتُ مقتولُ

I love the spear of the slender figure with confidence

That with it, if I live, I'd be killed

أصبو إلى ريقها وأرهبهُ

فآفتي عاسلٌ ومعسول

I yearn for her saliva and fear it

So my affliction is intimate and sweet

ودونَ وادي أشيَّ رسمُ هوى

فيه لوحي الغرام تنزيل

And below the valley of Ashya is the form of love

In it, the pages of passion revelation

غصونهُ للنسيم ساجدةٌ

وطيرهُ للقلى أبابيل

Its branches to the breeze bowing down

And its birds for hearts billing

مبتسمٌ والبلى يخامرهُ

تشابها سائلٌ ومسؤول

Smiling while misery engulfs it

Resembling, asking and questioned

يدلني سقمهُ على أنه

مثلي بالظاعنين متبول

Its sickness indicates to me that it

Is, like me, with the lovesick, raving mad

كأنَّ ذاكَ الغديرَ سابغةٌ

والنَّهرُ سيفٌ بالريحَ مصقول

It is as if that meadow is clad in green

And the river a sword by the wind polished

كلُّ مهاةٍ تضيءُّ طلعتها

وهنا وستُر الظلام مسدول

Whenever a star rises its light

While here the veil of darkness hoisted

شمسُ ضُحىً قلبها الهلال

لها زهر نجوم الدُّجى أكاليل

A morning sun whose crescent is its heart

For it, the flowers of the night stars are crowns

خمصانةٌ ينطق النطاق بها

ويصمت القلب والخلاخيل

Khamasana that the sash speaks of it

While the heart and anklets are silent

فُروعها والوجوهُ سافرةٌ

حنادسُ الليل والقناديل

Its terror and the faces are traveling

Candles of night and lanterns

معتذراتٌ جفونهنَّ عن الفت

ك وعذر الجفون مقبول

Apologizing, their eyelids from flirting abstaining

And the apology of eyelids accepted

ما ضرَّني والكرامُ تعرفني

أني عند اللئام مجهول

They hurt me not while the generous know me

That I am to the vile unknown

لحاسديَّ الدَّعوى ولي جمل ال

فضل كما شئتُ والتفاصيل

For my envious ones the claim while I have total

Virtue however I wished and the details

والقولُ تندى ألفاظهُ

ومعانيهِ وللجاحد الأقاويل

And words their utterance refined

And their meanings though for the skeptic the talks

تفرغتْ للأذى قلوبهمُ

وابن نظيفٍ بالمجد مشغول

Their hearts are free for harm

While the son of the chaste is with glory occupied

لينُ عطفِ السَّماحِ قاسي فؤا

د البأس خافوه وهو مأمول

Smooth the honor of the tribe, whitened

Because it is with praise washed

الواهبُ المنفساتِ حيثُ دمُ ال

خصب بسيف المُحول مطلول

The nobility, the brave leaders in assaults

And the masters in tribulations and ordeals

زاكٍ كريمُ الجدّين كالسيف ذي ال

حدين نردى به الأضاليل

For them the loveknots tie when

They reconcile in peace or crown glories

منزهٌ أن تُرى بناديه أو

تنفق في سوقهِ الأباطيل

His purses from gifts empty

And his meadows with steeds filled

تنميه آباؤه الكرام إلى ال

مجد وأجدادهُ المفاضيل

I excuse that I single him out

And he is in generosity to me prevented

أملسُ عرض القبيل أبيضهُ

لأنه بالثناء مغسولُ

To convey from you perfectly apologizing

And the apology from other than him prolonging

النبلُ القادةُ اللَّهاميمُ في ال

لأواءِ والسادةُ البهاليل

If your heart from him hostility pursued

Or descend, from him a warm welcome and readiness

لهم تحلّ الحبا إذا ما ان

تدوا في السلم أو تعقد الأكاليل

Your affection is pure and the promise lasting

And your preference manifest and the position offered

أكياسهُ من لهُاه مقفرةٌ

وربعهُ بالعفاةِ مأهول

You have fertile my lands so good is plenty

And united my group so the rope connected

أعذرَ في أنني أوحدهُ

وهو على الجود فيَّ معذول

So let the clouds deny the rain its attainment

For I have in attaining it no question

يبلغ اقصى منك معتذراً

والعذر ممَّن سواه تنويل

Intercede to the victorious king, necessity obliges

And without innovation, kindness and urgency

إن سرتَ عنهُ فؤادك الجو

دُ أو تنزل فرحبٌ منهُ وتأهيل

The horsemen piercing armor and the combatants

A lion which the spears its food

ما كان إلاّ كمزنةٍ نجمتْ

وأمحلَ العام وهو موبول

Short is the life of promises, it has no

Like others in delays prolongation

نبيُّ جودٍ في الفضل آيتهُ

ليس لها بالجحود تأويل

He knows not favor in his gifts

Nor excuses and the evasions

طار فؤادي في جو غيبتهِ

وهو يبرح الفراق مشكول

His features smile from his generosity

For he is with praise indulged

فليتَ وجدي ممَّا تحمَّله

إليه انضاؤنا المراسيل

Smiling while calamities frowning

And a slayer while the swords sheathed

كلُّ مغذٍ زمامه الشوقُ في

أكنافه بالسماح معقول

Corrector of the bright faces, darkener of the

Shadows of generosity, blackener of disputes

يثنيهِ ضخمَ السَّنام مخصبَ ما

عانق نسعٌ والعام مهزول

They are seas of bounty abundant

So smile at the cheeks if they flowed

إذاً لشقتْ ثوبَ الدّجى وبسا

طُ الأرض في لحظ عينها ميل

Where the eyelid of dawn sees him

With blurred vision and it intoxicated

فلا حباها الحسام طوقاً ولا

صيغ لها من دمٍ خلاخيل

A sky of war whose stars are the brown steeds

If mobilized the thrones of enemies demolished

في حيثُ لا مجدهُ بوردِ معادي

ه ولا العرضُ منهُ مأكول

And wealth is booty and the tyranny of blasphemy

Surrounding the outskirts and the plain inundated

مهذبَ الدين لي على عزمك

المأثور في النائبات تعويل

When he marches towards a betrayer the day darkens

And the morning with it ghoul infested

ودُّكَ صافٍ والعهد باقٍ

وإيثارك بادٍ والجاهُ مبذول

And righteousness with hot iron extinguished and the

Swimmers of turmoil fleets

أخصبتَ ربعي فالخيرُ متسعٌ

وضمَّ شملي فالحبل موصول

Where its pillars are its seating

And for its good manners handkerchiefs

فلتمنعِ السحبُ فضل نائلها

فليس لي في نوالها سُول

The cross weeps from the pulpit as

The scripture smiles for the gospels

إشفع إلى الظافر المليك يجب

وغير بدعٍ برٌ وتعجيل

Repelling when the spears request his aid

No repelling while he is abandoned

الطاعنُ الخيل شزباً وكماةُ ال

حرب أسدٌ لها القنا غيل

His blade to the fangs unsheathing

And his neck with the swords chained

قصيرُ عمرِ الوعودِ ليس له

كغيرهِ بالمطال تطويل

Of the clay of generosity and clemency on

Kindness and bounties molded

لا يعرفُ المنُّ في مواهبه

ولا المعاذيرُ والتَّعاليل

And here they are altogether for their core translucent

A composition from me and detailing

تثملُ من جوده شمائلهُ

لأنه بالثناء مشمول

For them and these if you wish the field of

Virtue over the precedents preferring

مبتسمٌ والخطوبُ عابسةٌ

وقاطعٌ والحسام مفلول

Hearts prostrate to them a religion when

A mention of them is read and intoned

ملقومِ بيضُ الوجوهِ خضرُ ظلا

ل الجود سودُ الوغى مقاويل

Necklaces of pearls adorned their beauties

And over the envious a proof

همُ بحور النَّعماءِ زاخرةً

فلذْ بشم اليفاع إن سيلوا

The lily-white in their splendor

And the thought of benefactors blissful

في حيث جفنُ الصباح تبصرهُ

بإثمد النقع وهو مكحول

Whenever a star rises as if it scattered in you

With breaths in you infatuated and raving mad

سماءُ حربٍ نجومها السُّمرُ إن

شيدتْ فعرشُ الأعداءِ مثلول

No time makes a foot of a man

For time beauty in him and reverence

والمال نهبٌ وباطشُ الكفر مك

فوفُ الحواشي والسَّح مشلول

إذا سرى نحو ناكثٍ أظلمَ ال

يومُ وغالَ الضُّحى به غول

والبرُّ بحرق من الحديد طما

وسابحاتُ الوغى أساطيل

في حيثُ أعوادها مجالسهُ

الشُمُّ ولأعرافها مناديل

يبكي من المنبر الصليبُ كما

تضحك للمصحفِ الأناجيل

وردهُ حين هبَّ يستنصرُ الأقدا

رَ لا هبَّ وهو مخذول

مقلتهُ للسنان مغضيةٌ

وجيدهُ بالحسام مغلول

من طينة الجودِ والسماح على ال

إحسان والمكرمات مجبول

وهاكها جملةً لجوهرها الش

شفافِ نظمٌ مني وتفصيل

لها وهذي إن شئتما حلبة ال

فضل على السابقات تفضيل

تسجدُ ديناً لها القلوبُ إذا

يقرأ ذكرٌ منها وترتيل

عقودُ درٍ زانت محاسنها

وهي على الحاسدين سجيل

اليوسفياتُ في ملاحتها

وفكرةُ المحسنين راحيل

كلُّ مهاةٍ كأَّنما نشرها في

ك بأنفاس فيك معلول

ولا دهاك الزمان من رجلٍ

للدهر حسنٌ بهِ وتبجيل
