قفْ بالخليج فإنه
أشهى بقاع الأرض ربعا

The most delightful place on earth by far
رقصت له الأغصان إذ
أثنى الحمام عليه سجعاً
The branches danced for it
When the dove praised it with rhyming couplets
متعطف كالأيم ذعرا
حين خيف فضاق ذرعا
Swaying like a frightened mother
When scared and distraught with worry
وإذا تمرُّ به الصبا
فأطربْ لسيفٍ صار درعا
And when the morning breeze passes by it
It excites, like a sword that became armor
متباريات سفنهُ
خفضاً براكبها ورفعاً
Its competing ships
Lowering then raising their passengers
مثل العقارب أقبلتْ
فوق الأراقم وهي تسعى
Like scorpions they approached
Above the sand dunes as they raced
