سقى الله بالمحلة بارداً

رقيق حواشي الوصل مجتمع الشملٍ

God watered El Mahalla with coolness

The thin edges of unity gathered together

بنينا لديها بالمدام فطالما

زففنا عروساً ذاتَ عقدٍ إلى بعل

For her we built with wine so long

As we sent off a bride with a necklace to her husband

عشيةَ كم للروض من أوجهٍ بها

حسانٍ وكم للماء من أعينٍ نجل

How many beautiful faces are in the garden

And how many clear eyes in the water are apparent

وكم أرسلت قوسُ الغمامة أسهماً

وجرّد في غمد الجداول من نصل

And how many arrows the rainbow sent

And unsheathed in the scabbard of the streams a blade

لذاك ابتسام الأقحوان وقد علا

حياءُ خدود الورد في أدمع الطلّ

Therefore the smiles of the cheeks and as shyness

Rose on the blush of the roses in the tears of the dew

ولولا رواةٌ بل وشاةٌ تخرَّصوا

أحاديث ليست في سماعٍ ولا نقل

And if not for the narrators, rather the gossips who prattled

Conversations neither heard nor conveyed

لثمنا ثغور النَّور في شنب الندى

خلال جبين النهر في طرر الظلّ

We would have bought the holes of light in the mustache of the dew

Through the forehead of the river in the sparks of shade
