1. أخل الظبي واصلاً والظبي

    مضاربها هاجرات الخلل

    The gazelle left its companion gazelle and departed

    Its dwellings are those with flawed pillars

  2. وثاني الصفوف بسود الحتوف

    وبيض الصوارم مثل الشعل

    And the second row with black helmets

    And the whites of swords like flames

  3. أعيذ مكارمك الباهرات

    أن يلبس الشمس ثوب الطفل

    I seek refuge for your brilliant virtues

    Lest the sun dons a child's garb

  4. وإني لأقدم ذي همة

    إلى ركن كفك شد وحل

    And I, one with resolve, proceed

    To the corner of your palm, contracting and loosening

  5. فباطنها منبع للندى

    وظاهرها قبلة للقبل

    For its essence is a spring of dew

    And its surface, a kiss for kisses

  6. وفيها الشفاء ونضر النعيم

    وصفو الحياة ورونق الأجل

    In it is healing and the pleasure of bliss

    And life's delight and the grace of death

  7. فكيف يقدم حتى علي

    من أنا لشرف منه محل

    So how can one like me presume

    To reach the honor of its place?

  8. ومن إن تجارت جياد العلو

    م سبقت مدى شوطه بالمهل

    And one whom if the steeds of glory raced

    Their range would still fall short

  9. فإن كنت قد نلت ما لا ينال

    فلم يمن الحظ قدر الأمل

    If you have attained what none can attain

    Then fate has not fulfilled all hopes

  10. ومن قصد البدر ألغى السهى

    ومن حاول البحر عاف الوشل

    One who desires the moon neglects the stars

    One who dares the sea scorns the streams

  11. ولست بكافرها نعمة

    تمل من الشكر ما لا يمل

    And I am not ungrateful for its blessings

    That never cease to fill me

  12. ولكن رجاؤك يبغي المزيد

    ربما سوف يضرب عنه المثل

    But my hopes seek more

    That may become a parable

  13. فكم قيل عنسي تجنى وزا

    د وعنك ولا عجب قد فعل

    For how much has been said of me, gathering

    And you - no wonder you have done so!
