    لقد حيرت فيك الناظرينا

    You astound with enthusiasm and charm with beauty

    You have perplexed the beholders

  3. فطوراً تشبه الآساد بأساً

    وطوراً تشبه الأغصان لينا

    Sometimes you resemble lions with might

    And other times resemble soft branches

  4. لقد شرفت قدر الدين حقاً

    إذا الألقاب خالفت اليقينا

    You have truly honored religion

    When titles contradict the truth

  5. رأيت زمانك الموموق طيباً

    زمان الأمن عند الخائفينا

    I saw your auspicious time as good

    The time of safety for the fearful

  6. فأيام تبذ الدهر فضلاً

    وساعات تفوق بهال القرونا

    Days that time squandered generously

    And hours that surpassed eras in splendor

  7. لغادرت الليالي وهي بيض

    وكانت قبلها الأيام جونا

    The nights departed while still white

    Though before them the days were gloomy

  8. حلفت بما منحت من الأيادي

    يميناً مثل وعدك لن تمينا

    I swore by what you bestowed with your hands

    An oath like your promise I will not break

  9. لما حاربت صرف الدهر ألا

    رأيت بوجهك الفتح المبينا

    When you fought the vicissitudes of fate

    I saw clear victory in your face

  10. أهنت كريم مالك بالعطايا

    وعز على أناس أن يهونا

    You honored the generous owner of power

    And it pained the people to be disgraced

  11. وما فقت الورى سعة ودنيا

    ولكن فقتهم كرماً ودينا

    You did not lack vastness and worldliness

    But you lacked only generosity and faith

  12. وقد شبهوك إذ شبهوك زعماً

    كما شبه القتاد الياسمينا

    When they compared you, they compared

    Like comparing jasmine to cottontail

  13. سكنت من العلى حجراً وطينا

    وغيرك يبتني حجراً وطينا

    You dwelled in a chamber of clay and mud

    While others seek a chamber of clay and mud

  14. أرحنا في ذراك العيس حيناً

    فلا نسعاً حجراً وطينا

    Comfort us during your time with us

    So we no longer seek clay and mud

  15. أرحنا في ذراك العيس حيناً

    فلا نسعاً نشد ولا وضينا

    Comfort us during your time with us

    So we no longer yearn or become downcast

  16. وواصلني نداك الغمر حتى

    هجرت له السهولة والحزونا

    And join me with your inexhaustible generosity

    I abandoned indifference and melancholy for it

  17. وبحر الجود وهو أجل علم

    له الحركات يحدثن السكونا

    The sea of kindness, the greatest epiphany

    With currents that disturb tranquility

  18. جزاك الله عن حمد ورفد

    جزاء الشاكرين الشاكدينا

    May God reward you for praise and plenty

    The reward of thankful, contented praisers

  19. تجيز وتمنح الإخوان جوداً

    وغيرك لا يجيز المادحينا

    You reward and grant the brothers generosity

    While others do not reward the praising

  20. مقال أفحم الفصحاء عياً

    وجود بل الغيث الهتونا

    Words that silenced the eloquent

    Generosity that brought rain to the barren land

  21. يذوب فتجمد الأفكار عنه

    نسيباً علم الورق الحنينا

    Minds freeze from it, a noble lineage

    Knowledge melts like leaves in the sun

  22. وقد رجعت به الأعداء عني

    فلا خابت ظنونك خائبينا

    With it, you turned the enemies away from me

    So your hopes were not disappointed

  23. فهل شكلاً بعثت على سطور

    أم الخطي والخيل الصفونا

    Did you send these lines in verse

    Or my handwriting and noble horses?

  24. سلت بفضها سيفاً صقيلاً

    وحزت بنظمها عقداً ثمينا

    It unsheathed a polished sword with its virtue

    And strung a precious necklace with its prose

  25. لقد ملأت وجوه الطرس لما

    نظرت إلى محاسنها عيونا

    When they looked upon its beauty, it filled

    The faces of knights with eyes

  26. فمن ألفاته القامات هيفاً

    ومن ألفاظه الغادات عينا

    With its phrases it made bodies sway

    And with its words, gazelles glance

  27. لقد حملتني ديناً ثقيلاً

    وحكم الشرع أن أقضي الديونا

    It burdened me with a weighty debt

    And law rules I must repay debts

  28. وأصبحت القوافي مخجلات

    وقد أهدين شكماً بل هدينا

    The rhymes became ashamed

    When I was gifted a constitution, nay guidance!

  29. ستعلم ما ثنائي حين تسري

    بهن وإذا المطي بها حدينا

    You will know my praise when it flows

    As she-camels flow with cheek braces

  30. فلم نسمع بمثلك في وفاء

    وظني أن مثلي لن يكونا

    I never heard of loyalty like yours

    And I think none will ever be like us
