1. أبدورُ تمٍ أو وجوهُ كواعبٍ

    سفوتْ طوالعَ في بروج غواربِ

    والقلبُ في الأظعان أول ذاهبِ

    لعذرتَ في ماء الدموع الذائبِ

    لوقفت منها في رسوم ملاعب

  6. والبينُ معركةُ الصبابة كم بها

    غمضاً قتيلاً بعد صبرٍ هاربِ

    And separation is the battleground of youths, how many there

    Lie slain after fleeing patience

  7. حرسوا القدود بمثلهنَّ من القنا

    فحمى شموسَ الحسن أي كواكب

  8. يا حاكماً مذ غاب ناب خيالهُ

    لم يخلُ منصب حاكمٍ من نائبِ

  9. لا ذقتَ زلاً والجمالُ ولايةٌ

    عاملتني فيها بغير الواجبِ

    You have not tasted decline, and beauty is authority

  10. كم مهجةٍ فيها لنا وحشاشةٍ

    ذهبت على يد ناظرٍ أو حاجبِ

    How many slain, in them is desolation for us and loneliness

    Lost at the hand of a watcher or guard

  11. وسلبتني طيب الكرى وأحلت أجف

    اني على وعدِ الخيال الكاذبِ

    And they robbed me of the scent of vine, and poured a dry

    riverbed for me after the promise of the lying imagination

  12. وأقيمُ عذرك في القطيعة عالماً

    صدَّ الحسان عن العذار الشائبِ

    And I establish your excuse in estrangement, knowing

    The repelling of the good from the reprehensible separation

  13. هلا ضحكت بلمتي وغرابُها

    بفراقِ من أهواه ليس بناعبِ

    Why did you not laugh at my condition and its strangeness

    من جيد المهاة الكاعبِ

    منهنَّ بين جوانح وترائب

  16. عجباً تقاس بك البدورُ وتارةً

    حور الظباء وذاك جهد الغائبِ

    Strange that equivalents are struck for you, and sometimes

  17. وتغيرني هيفُ الغصون تحوز من

    عِطفيك هزَّة سارقٍ أو غاصب
