1. تباً لما اختلق الواشي وما نقلا

    أما وعينيك لا قالَ الأنام سلا

    Woe to what the slanderer invented and conveyed

    As if your eyes didn't say to people, "Enough!"

  2. لولا الوفاءُ وحفظي ما أضعت لما

    لبستُ قرطيّ فيك اللّوم والعذلا

    If not for loyalty and keeping my promise

    I would have worn earrings to blame and reprimand you

  3. وقفتَ من جسمي المضني على طلل

    فما سألتَ اتباعَ السنّة الطّللا

    You stood at my ailing body on the hills

    Yet didn’t ask about following the ways of ascending

  4. وهبك حلتَ فما أعدى خيالكم

    فلم يقل ذلك المشتاق ما فعلا

    I granted you power, yet your imagination did not transgress

    So the longing one did not say what he did

  5. لولا قلاك لقد كانت خلائقه

    إذا صددتَ على عاداته وصلا

    If not for your speech, your manners

    Would have been when you insist on your habits and connection

  6. خلفتموني على فرش السقام لقى

    ما كل من صحَّ يأوى لمن نحلا

    You left me on the carpet of sickness to meet

    What every healthy one desires is not what the afflicted wishes

  7. حتى لو أنَّ بنات الدهر تسعفني

    بقربكم ما عرفت اللهو والجذلا

    Even if the daughters of time console me

    With your nearness, I wouldn’t know amusement and flirtation

  8. يا قاتلي في سبيل الحب لا قودٌ

    ومصمي القلب بالأجفان لا تسلا

    Oh you who killed me in the name of love, no vengeance

    And blinded my heart with eyelids, no insight

  9. وجيرة السفح من لبنان جادكم

    نظير دمعي إذا ما أنهلَّ أو هطلا

    The neighbor of the foothill of Lebanon’s generosity

    Matches my tears when it pours heavily or drizzles gently

  10. تلوَّنت مثلَ أيّامي عهودكمُ

    واستبدلوني ولم أطلب بهم بدلا

    Your covenants changed colors like my days

    And you replaced me without me seeking a substitute

  11. مهىً خلعت الصّبا والشملُ مجتمعٌ

    خلع الرداء على أيّامهم حللا

    Reluctantly, youth bid its farewell and companionship disbanded

    Shedding attire off its days and donning new garments

  12. سمّوا الظلامَ على أقمارهِ شعراً

    ويانعَ الورد في أغصانه خجلا

    They named the darkness upon its moons as poetry

    And the blooming rose in its branches bashfully bowed

  13. وأهاً لشرخ شباب كنت مغتبطاً

    به وعمرِ وصالِ كان مقتبلاً

    Oh woe to the fracture of a youth I prided myself with

    And a lifetime of connection that was forthcoming

  14. شكوت أن هزّني ذو منظرٍ بهجٍ

    أو لذَّ صفوُ حياة بعدكم وجلا

    I complained that one with a pleasant appearance shook me

    Or the essence of life after you tempted and drew near

  15. من موقفٍ مثلِ حدّ السيف دونكم

    مضيت فيه وحدُّ السيف قد نكلا

    From a stand like the edge of a sword beside you

    I walked on, and the edge of the sword withdrew

  16. وزورةٍ لي وعين النجم ناعسةٌ

    من السّرى وخضاب الليل ما نصلا

    A visit for me, and the star's eye was sleepy

    From Sirius, and the darkness of night did not mix henna

  17. جهلتُ فيها فأدركت المنى كثباً

    وإنما يدرك اللذاتِ من جهلا

    I was ignorant in it, so I attained purpose hastily

    And indeed, one realizes pleasures through ignorance

  18. وإنَّ نار الهوى بالدمع ما خمدتْ

    كما زعمتم وجرح الشوق ما أندملا

    The fire of passion did not die out with tears

    As you claimed, and the wound of longing did not heal

  19. آهاً لقلبٍ أسيرٍ في رحالكمُ

    نصحتهُ فيكمُ جهدي فما قبلا

    Oh, for a heart captive in your travels

    I advised it about you, but my efforts did not accept

  20. وعند قبّ المذاكي حاجة قدمت

    وطال ما أنجز الميعادَ من مطلا

    At the arch of promises, I presented a need

    Yet fulfilling the appointment lingered for so long

  21. ذمَّ النوى كلُّ مخلوقٍ وربَّ نوى

    شكرتُ فيها جيادَ الخيل وإلا بلا

    The intensions of all creatures dispraised

    While I thanked the generous horses, or else without

  22. أفقٌ من البين أهدت لي مطالعهُ

    وللبريّة بدرُ التمّ لا أفلا

    A horizon of clarity you granted me its rises

    And for the wilderness the full moon does not set

  23. وما الغمامُ سوى الملك المعظّم جاد

    الأرض جمعاً فعمَّ السهل والجبلا

    The clouds are none other than the Honored King

    Who blessed the land, so plains and mountains prospered
