And in it is a mosque’s arched niche, plain to see,
With it a yearning mosque is witnessed
Entered neither for prayer nor for worship.
Not for prayer or devotion you enter
We offer it beautiful images of figurines,
The beautiful images gave it breasts
Till one wonders: is it a qibla or a temple?
That you doubt whether a prayer niche or temple
And in it is jarring song that has not passed into
With it a disturbing song unacceptable
An ear, but is perceived through the eyes.
To the ear but to the eyes accrued
For from his second son comes the ‘heavy’ rhythm when he sits with knees clasped
So from his second burdensome son if concealed
In a gathering—and he is the ‘first heavy’ one.
In a gathering and he is the foremost burdensome
