They said, “His eye inflammation restrains his glances,
They said his eyes were afflicted, forbidding their gazing,
so fear neither for heart nor liver.”
So do not fear for a heart or a liver.
I said, “Beware his eyes, for they are deadly;
I said, "Beware of his glances, for they are deadly,
and their weakness now saves them from retribution.
And their weakness now is what saves him from punishment."

Have you not seen how both his cheeks have donned,
Have you not seen his cheeks, how they have worn
for fear of their onslaught, a coat of chain mail?
From fear of their cheekbones, a coat of mail?

Truly a youth is fearful even when gentle,
and a sword’s edge cuts even when rusty.”
And the sword cuts its edge while it is still in its sheath.
