ونديم طارحته بعض ما بي

من نزوعي إِلى لِقا الأحباب

A friend of mine revealed to me some of what was inside me

Of my inclination to meet loved ones

قلت هبني منيَّته كان ماذا

يتمنى قال الصِبا والتصابي

I said tell me what was his wish

He said youthfulness and the mornings of joy

قلت لِمْ قال ذاك باكورة العم

ر وهذي معادن الأطراب

I said why? He said that is the beginning of living

And this is the essence of happiness

قلت هل غير ذين قال دواع

ي الأنس تقضي لكل أمر عجاب

I said is there anything else? He said the reasons

For companionship that fulfill every amazing matter

قلت شَنّفْ مسامعي وتمنى

قال بنت الكروم وابن السحاب

I said explain it to me and he wished

For a daughter of vineyards and a son of clouds

قلت لِمْ قال كي أُولد م هذي

ن فوق الكؤوس دُرَّ الحَبَاب

I said why? He said so I would be born with these

Above cups, the pearls of love

قلت زدني قال النديم المواتي

قلت لم قال مؤنس الأحباب

I said tell me more, he said the women who are loving

I said why? He said the companions of loved ones
