1. تَنَفَّسَت نَسَماتُ السحر في السَحَر

    وهينمت في ميادين من الزَهَر

    The breezes of dawn breathed at dawn

    And buzzed in meadows of flowers

  2. فنَبَّهت كلَّ مِرْنام الضحى غَرِدٍ

    حالي الطلاَ مخضَب الكفين مستَحِر

    Waking every warbler of the morning singing

    My condition is that of a youth with rose-stained palms kindled

  3. وحبّذا شدوات الطير جاوبها

    عزفُ القيان على النايات والوَتَر

    And the birds’ singing responds to them

    The playing of reeds on pipes and strings

  4. حيث المزاهر تندى من غضارتها

    محاجرُ النور في الآصال والبكُر

    Where the flowers are dewy in their lushness

    Saucers of light in budding branches

  5. وللمعاطف من أغصانها مَيَدٌ

    ممزق لجيوب الظل في الغدُر

    And for the robes from its branches a waving

    Tearing the pockets of shade in betrayal

  6. تحكي لنا بارتجاس الريح في ورق

    منها يرفّ على فينانها النضرِ

    It tells us in the rustling of wind in leaves

    Swaying over its branches is freshness

  7. رقص الدَهاقين ما زالت ترفّ له

    معاطفُ الغيد في خُضْر من الأَزُر

    The dancing of swaying branches still sways for it

    Robes of mist in greenish blue

  8. تلقى بها الشمس في خدّ الثرى لمعاً

    جاءت بها فُرَج الأوراق كالغُرر

    Meeting the sun on the cheek of the land shining

    Brought forth by the dimples of leaves like jewels

  9. كأنّما حُوّة الأفياء تلبَسه

    بها ملاءة ما قد حيك للنَمِر

    As if the undulating serpent wears it

    Clothed in a garment woven for the tiger

  10. والنهر يصدى بهاتيك الظلال كما

    تصدى صفيحة حدّ الصارم الذكر

    And the river echoes with those shadows as

    A sword's sharp blade echoes

  11. والزهر يفرش في شطَّيه ما رقمت

    فيه السحائب من ريط ومن حِبَر

    And flowers carpet its banks what

    The clouds have figured there in line and ink

  12. ربعية الوشي لا ينفكُّ زِبْرجها

    يجلو لنا من حُلاها أحسنَ الصور

    The brocade robe's sheen does not cease

    Revealing to us the best images from its dreams

  13. فقم بنا لابتكار العيش قد شرفت

    لهاته بالمنى في رّيق العُمُر

    So rise with me to devise life - it has ennobled

    Itself to those wishes in the saliva of life

  14. بكل أهيف قد ألوى زرافته

    على سنا البدر في مائية الزهر

    With every gazelle having bent its neck

    Over our full mooned night in the watery flowers

  15. كأنما خدّه مُذْ راح ممتعناً

    من العيون بتضريج من الخَفر

    As if its cheek since morning is anointed

    By eyes with kohl of the finest

  16. صحيفة ملكت من درة بسطت

    جرى بها ذوب ياقوت على قدر

    A paper she ruled from a pearl she unfolded

    Melted ruby spilled over a pot

  17. ورقّة السمع بالألحان من فمه

    فالسمع في مثلما طوراً أخو النظر

    And the page of hearing with melodies from his mouth

    So hearing is in that regard a twin of sight

  18. فكم تمتع سمعي والهوى أمم

    يوماً بأوصاف شهم طيب الأثر

    So how my hearing and passion enjoyed

    One day descriptions of valiant, sweet vestige

  19. هو ابنِ خدن المعالي وابن بجدتها

    عبد الرحيم إِمام البدو والحضر

    He is son of the eminent houses and son of their devotion

    Abdul Rahim, imam of nomad and settled lands

  20. مولىً أنافت على العِضَّيْن بهجته

    وغادرت قُسَ مَعْ سحبان في حصَرِ

    My master - joys smiled upon the molars through him

    And quit the portion of Suhban during siege

  21. بكل معنى خلوب اللفظ جال به

    ماء السلاسة في روض من الفِقَر

    With every charming, refined phrase he roamed with it

    The water of fluency in a garden of creativity

  22. طلْق الأعنة في نَهْجِ البلاغة لا

    ينفك عن خاطر في البحث مستعر

    Unconstrained speech in the path of eloquence does not

    Depart a heart researching kindled

  23. قد برّزت في رهان الفضل فكرته

    وأحرزت قصبات السبق والظفر

    His intellect shined in the race of merit

    And won the banners of precedence and triumph

  24. أربت على الروضة الغناء شيمته

    لطفاً إِذا مازجتها رقة السحَر

    He cultivated upon the garden the trait of gentle grace

    When he mixed with it the gentleness of magic

  25. مولاي يا مَن سرت تعنو لساحته

    نوازع للمنى لولاه لم تَسِر

    My master - O you who travelled aspiring for his field

    Inclinations of purpose, without whom desires do not roam

  26. إِليكها من بنات الفكر غانيةً

    عذراء تزهو بحسن الدَلّ والحَورَ

    To you from the daughters of thought singing

    A virgin blooming in beauty and splendor

  27. تزدان منك بأوصاف نسقن على

    لبَّاتها من حُلاها أنفس الدُرَر

    Adorning herself through you with attributes as if

    The finest pearls were strung upon her collar
