1. سقت مُسْتَهَلاّتُ الحيا المتضاعِفِ

    غضارةَ عيشٍ للأحبةِ سالفِ

    The spent clouds of life poured down

    A fresh livelihood for the loved ones of old

  2. وحيّت زمانَ القصف أيام لم تزل

    من الدهر في ظلّ من الأنس وارف

    And I greeted the vintage days that never ceased

    To linger in the shade of intimacy and plenty

  3. وروض بكرناه خِفافاً وللندى

    نثارُ سقيطٍ في مغانيه واكفِ

    In our virgin meadows we stepped lightly while the dew

    Scattered showers in its melodies and abundance

  4. نجرُّ رداءَ العزٍّ في جنباتِه

    ونسحب ذيْلَ اللهو سحبَ المطارف

    We donned the mantle of dignity

    And drew out the train of merriment like the train of a bridal dress

  5. وفي البان أمثال القيان حمائم

    من الوُرْق حنَّت للعهود السوالف

    Among the branches were doves like the full moons

    That cooed to the seasons of past

  6. تردد الحانَ الغريضِ ومعْبَدٍ

    برنّة مصدور وأنّةِ لاهف

    The tones of the throaty lute and the well-stringed oud played on

    The singing of the homesick and the lament of the ardent lover

  7. وبين الغصون المائساتِ جداولٌ

    اكبّ عليها الزهر إِكبابَ راعف

    And between the leaning branches flowed rivulets

    Over which flowers poured profusely like a torrent

  8. إِذا جعّدت أيدي الرياح متونها

    وقمت على الشطين في زي قائِف

    When the winds ruffled their waves

    And I stood on the banks dressed like a soothsayer

  9. حسبت أساريراً من الأفق عبّستْ

    بمرآة صافي مائها المترادف

    I imagined they were couches from the horizon scowling

    At the reflection of their clear waters, end to end

  10. وبات لنا أحوى من الغيد أحْوَرٌ

    رقيق حواشي الدَّل رخص المعاطف

    And we had a more melodious night than the antelope's moan

    Delicate like the young palm's fronds, modest in its coverings

  11. يدور بكأس الراحِ لما تألفتْ

    مع الزير ألحانُ الحمام الهواتف

    Circling the cup of respite when the warblings of doves blended

    With the music, songs of the cooing messengers

  12. بليلٍ طوينا فيه عن كلِّ مقلة

    سُجوفَ الكرى باللَّهو طيَّ الصحائف

    On a long night where we folded away all cares

    Hollowing out minds with play, folding up pages

  13. إِلى أن بدا وخط المشيب بفوده

    ولاحت تباشير الضيا المتقاذف

    Until the streaks of white hair shone through his temples

    And early signs of gray hair blew about

  14. وولّت نجوم الأفق تنصاع رهبةً

    وقد خفقت للذُعر خفق الروانف

    The stars of the horizon fell away in awe

    Flapping in horror like the fluttering of sails

  15. وقامت به الجوزاء حيرى كأنّها

    جَبَانٌ أضلته السُرى في المخاوف

    The Gemini rose in confusion as if it were

    A coward who lost his way among the fears

  16. وفي إِثرها الشِعرى العَبُور كأنّها

    تقلّبُ طَرْفاً مُنْكِراً غير عارف

    And after it Sirius the Great, as if

    It tossed about a disapproving glance, unaware

  17. كأنَّ الثرّيا سُبحْةٌ من لآليء

    وهت في رماد إِثر عجلان خائف

    As if the Pleiades were a string of pearls

    Lost in the ashes after restless meteors

  18. كأنَّ سهيلاً نارُ سَفْرٍ تلاعبت

    بها في مهافي الريح أيدي العواصف

    As if Suhail was a fire of journeying

    Tossed about in the crosswinds by the hands of violent gales

  19. كأنَّ بني نعْشٍ شوادِنُ قفرة

    أَضَلَّتهم الأدماءُ بين التنائِفِ

    As if the Bani Na'sh were lonely fire keepers

    Led astray by blood feuds amid the factions

  20. كأنَّ رقيبَ الصبح دينارُ عسجد

    على كفِّ مجهود الذراعين راجف

    As if the dawn's guardian were a golden dinar

    Trembling in the grip of exhausted arms

  21. كأنَّ ابتلاجَ الصبح أحكام سيّدٍ

    خبير بتحقيق العويصات عارف

    As if the dawn's first lights were the rulings of a master

    Skilled in unraveling the most complex matters, knowing

  22. كفيل بحلِّ المشكلاتِ سميدعٌ

    من القوم بسامَيْن شم المراعف

    Able to solve the most difficult problems, a overlord

    Of the people, with the best hearing and sense of smell

  23. سَريٌ له في الدين صولةُ ناصحٍ

    نصير على رَيْبِ الزمان مساعف

    A champion of religion with the ferocity of an advisor

    An ally against the tricks of time, doubled over

  24. هو المصطفى الشهم الذي جرفي العُلا

    مطارفَ عزّ من تليد وطارف

    He is Al-Mustafa the Valiant who scaled the heights

    Of enduring glory from subtlety and finery

  25. تولّى دمشق الشام فانهل غيثها

    وآمن في أرجائها كلُّ خائف

    He took on Damascus of Syria and its rain poured down

    Bringing safety throughout its lands for every fearful soul

  26. فيا ماجداً أوسعتَ جِلَّقَ رفعةً

    وأصبحت بشّ الوجه جمّ العواطف

    O glorious one, you widened the expanse of nobility

    And your face shone with joy and affection

  27. ويا من غدت أوصافه الغُر تزدري

    بنَشْر فتيقِ المِسْك بين النفانفِ

    O you whose traits disdain to spread the perfume of musk between fingers

    To you, in adoration, a fragrant ingenuity

  28. إِليك بها بهنانة عبقرية

    من الغيد تزهو في البرود اللطائف

    Of poetry comes from the antelope, redolent in its gentle images

    Seeking your acceptance as a favor, may your days

  29. أتت ترتجي منك القبول تفضلاً

    ودُمْ كلَّ يوم في سرورٍ مضاعَفِ

    Always abound in doubled joy
