يا مالِكي بِعَوائِد البِرِّ

وَبِذاكَ تَملِكُ رِبقةَ الحُرِّ

O my protector, with your virtuous deeds,

With that you possess the elegance of the free.

أَنصَفتَني وَالناسُ تَظلِمُني

فَلأشكرَنَّكَ آخِرَ الدَهرِ

You were just to me while people wronged me,

So I will thank you until the end of time.

مِنَنٌ عَل مِنَن تُتابِعها

خَفَّت عَليك وَأَثقلَت ظَهري

Blessing upon blessing you bestowed on me,

Light for you but heavy on my back.

فلأشكرنَّ صَنائِعاً سَلَفَت

فَعَسى يَقومُ بِبَعضِها شُكري

So I will thank the favors already granted,

Perhaps with some my gratitude will stand.

وَكشفت ما سَتَروهُ مِن أَمري

وَعَرفت ما جَهَلوهُ مِن قَدري

You uncovered what they hid of my affairs,

And knew what they were ignorant of in my worth.

فلأنشرَنَّ عليك من مِدَحي

شُكر الرِياضِ الغَيثَ بالنَشرِ

So I will spread about you my praise,

Like the meadows spreading rain with growth.
