1. Love for the Eye of all eyes

    drives one onward to death;

  2. and the guarded Face has

    manifestations in hidden depths.

  3. He appeared; then, apart from myself, I witnessed

    the manifold varieties of the arts.

  4. And my tangled longings surged.

    May it water the valley and greet

  5. its hills—the rain—with water to the full.

    How often there circled around me,

  6. through him, the cup of heady wine!

    And through him I became prepared;

  7. I folded the universe completely away,

    from kāf to nūn.

  8. And may God, my Lord, send blessings

    upon the Caller who answers the call,

  9. upon the beloved of my heart,

    upon Taha—and my love

  10. for him, in attaining my nearness.

    And upon his Family, then his Companions—

  11. through them the fortresses were conquered:

    leaders of every community,

  12. possessors of exalted rank.

    To them, ʿAbd al-Ghani

  13. gives greeting with a salutation

    from God Most High,

  14. as long as evening endures

    and affairs keep turning.
