يا شمعة هي في كل الفوانيسِ

يخالف العقل هذا في التقايسِ

O candle that is in all the lanterns

This contradicts reason in comparing

وهو المحقق عند العارفين به

كشف بكشف وتلبيس بتلبيس

It is the truth with the knowledgeable about it

Revealed by revelation and disguising by disguising

لم يبق مني به شيء سواه ولم

يظهر كما هو لي في وصف تقديس

Nothing of me remained but Him and no

Appeared as He is to me in the description of sanctification

فزلت عني وزال الكون أجمعه

عندي كما وحشتي زالت وتأنيسي

So I slipped away from myself and the whole universe

Slipped away from me as my loneliness slipped away and my companionship

وكان هذا بسر لاح لي زمناً

هو الوجود وتفريعي وتأسيسي

And this was with a secret that shone on me for a while

It is existence and my branching out and my foundation

من كل شيء تبدى لي فحققه

قلبي فزال بتحقيقي وتطميسي

From everything He appeared to me so my heart realized Him

So the universe disappeared with my realization and concealment

فصرت لا هو عن ذوق ولست أنا

وطهر الغيب بالأغيار تدنيسي

So I became neither Him in taste nor myself

And the unseen was purified by strangers my defilement

وقد بدا سر ذاك السر يخبرني

عن آدم العلم بالأسما وإبليس

And the secret of that secret began to inform me

About Adam the knowledge of names and Iblis

فيا حقيقة كوني أنت شمس ضحى

عليك غيمة تنويعي وتجنيسي

So O essence of existence you are the sun of early morning

Upon you a cloud of my variation and composition

أو كالسواد الذي في العين يظهر من

قرص الأشعة في تحديق تحييس

Or like the blackness that appears in the eye from

The rays' disk in intent gazing

كالعنكبوت بنت نفس لها خيماً

حتى بها وهنت من طول تعنيس

Like the spider that built for itself a shelter

Until through it, it weakened from prolonged weakness

كيس تقدر من شتى الشئون له

والسر أجمعه في ذلك الكيس

A bag that can hold the various affairs for it

And the whole secret is in that bag

طرقت دير الهوىدارت دوائره

على الرهابين فيه والقساقيس

I knocked on the monastery of love, its circles

Frightened those inside it and the sacristans

نفوس أغيار عين في برانسها

مزخرفات كأذناب الطواويس

Souls of strangers whose insights in their secondary principles

Are embellishments like the tails of peacocks

حتى نظرت بعين العين فانكشفت

موتَى الشماميس منها في النواميس

Until I looked with the eye of the eye so I was unveiled

The dead bodies of candles among them in the lamps

وأكبر الحق في واهي أباطله

وقد تعالى على كل الوساويس

And the Greatest Truth in the flimsy falsehoods

And He transcended over all the mediocrities

وكل ما كان عند العقل أدرسه

درسته وتلاشى أمر تدريسي

And all that the mind had perceived

I perceived and the matter of my teaching disappeared

وأصبح الواحد المعروف مشتهراً

عندي ولا عند لي من فرط تفليسي

And the Known One became famous in my view

And I had no one left from the excess of my bankruptcy

ولم يكن غيره الثاني له ونفى

تثليث ظني وتربيعي وتخميسي

And there was no second to Him and the trinity of my assumption was denied

And my quadruplicity and quintessence

بالله قف أيها الساري بنا وبه

يبدي مراتب إدلاج وتعريس

By Allah stand O the one crossing to us and by Him

The degrees of initiation and definition are manifested

واعطف على العيس لا تجذب أعنتها

إلا إليك وجد واعطف على العيس

And lean towards Jesus do not pull his supporters

Except to you, sincerely lean to Jesus

تبارك الله لي وجه الحبيب بدا

وقد تبسم لي من بعد تعبيس

Blessed is Allah the face of the Beloved appeared

And he smiled at me after frowning

عرشي أتى من سباغيٍّ لقدس هدى

ومع سليمانه إسلام بلقيس

My throne came from resolution to the holiness of guidance

And with Solomon, Sheba's submission

وعاد ما كان مني بالغداة مضى

وأذّن الظهر بي في وقت تغليس

And what was gone in the early morning returned

And the noon called me at the time of unfairness

وللبداية قد عادت نهايتنا

وأخلصت عندنا كل الجواسيس

And for the beginning our ending returned

And all the spies became sincere to us

والكل أصبح نوراً بعد ظلمته

وقد تطهّر منه كل تنجيس

And all became light after its darkness

And it was purified of all filth

وقد رأى الكل في تغيير فطرتهم

مذاهباً أدركوها بالمقاييس

And all saw in the change of their innate nature

Doctrines they realized with criteria

وعين ما أنا مفطور عليه وهم

مثلي هو الحق عندي دون تنفيس

And the eye of what I was created upon and they

Are like me, it is the truth to me without sighing

فاكشف ولا تخترع ما أنت فيه تفز

بدين طه وداود وجرجيس

So reveal and do not invent what you are deluded by

The religion of Taha and David and George

وقل وما أنا ممن بالتكلف قد

أتى إليكم خلافا للمناحيس

And say, I am not one of those who

Came to you with affectation contrary to the carpenters
