هي الذات التي فوق البراقِ

تحن إلى ذرى السبع الطباقِ

She is the essence beyond the brilliant

Yearning for the heavens' orbits

لها بالجسم منها ثوب درٍّ

يشف على معانيها الدقاق

With a body made of pearls from her

Covering meanings subtle and fine

فمن ينأى إليها فهو دان

ومن يفنى عليها فهو باقي

So whoever comes close is brought near

And whoever is lost in her remains

وما بسوى المحبة كون شيءٍ

وليس الميل إلا بالتلاقي

And nothing but love can exist

And inclination is only through meeting

وأنوار الجمال بكل قلب

تسمّى بالهوى والإشتياق

The lights of beauty fill every heart

Named by passion and longing

ولم يكن النعيم سوى التداني

ولم يكن العذاب سوى الفراق

And bliss was only through closeness

And torment was only through separation

وكل الكون في الدنيا حجاب

وفي الأخرى عن الوجه الملاقي

And all the world here is a veil

And in the next from the encountered face

وأنت الكأس والأسرار خمر

ومجلسك التقى والله ساقي

And You are the cup and the wine is secrets

And your assembly purity and God is the cupbearer

فما لك لا تطير هوى وسكراً

وقد حييت بالكأس الدهاق

So why don't you fly drunk on love and intoxication

When you have revived with the overflowing cup

أزل نومي بشدوك يا نديمي

وأبدل لي خلافك بالوفاق

Remove my sleepiness with your singing my friend

And replace your discord for reconciliation

وحيِّ على المنى يا ابن المعاني

ولا تفتن بألفاظٍ رقاق

Inspire the desires, O son of meanings

And don't be distracted by subtle words

وخذ مني وناولني إلى أن

تراني قد وصلت إلى التراقي

Take from me and give me until

You see me attained permanence

ومن بالحق يقذف لاح جهراً

وما التفت له ساق بساق

And whoever by the Truth casts openly

Not caring for feet or legs

هنالك تضمحل به رسومي

وأذهب بانسحاقٍ وانمحاق

There my forms will fade

And I will go in annihilation and extinction

ويبطل كل شيء كان حتى

مقالي ذا وفهمي مع مذاقي

And everything that was will cease

Including my words and understanding and taste

ويبقى مثل ما قد كان ربي

على ما كان وهو أجل واقي

And will remain as my Lord was

In His permanence, Most High and Enduring

ويخفى الكون من غير اختفاء

ويبدو النور من غير انفهاق

And the world will be unseen without disappearing

And the Light will appear without rending

ودنسناه بالأفهام حيناً

وبالأقوال والبحث المساق

And we sullied Him for a time

With speech, discussion and conversation

إلى أن جاد غيث الفيض منه

بماء القدس وانفتحت سواقي

Until the rain of Grace from Him poured

With the water of Holiness and the streams opened

إذا قلنا عرفناه جهلنا

وهل فرع لأوج الأصل راقي

If we say we knew, we were ignorant

And can the branch surpass the lofty origin?

وريح المسك في الصندوق يفشو

ويعرف منه قدر الإنتشاق

And the musk scent spreads in the box

And its intensity of diffusion is known

وهل نور النجوم يلوح إلا

على مقدار إدراك المآقي

And does the light of stars shine

Except by the capacity of the observers

هو الحق المبين وكل شيء

سواه باطل بالإتفاق

He is the Evident Truth and everything

Other than Him false by consensus

قديم لا بمعنى فهم كون

وباق لا كقول الخلق باقي

Eternal not in the sense of understanding existence

Remaining not like the words of creation remaining
