قضى الأمر وجف القلمُ

وبدت نار الحمى والعلمُ

The matter has been decreed, the pen has dried

And the fever's fire and knowledge appeared

ونزلنا عُرْبَ وادي سلمٍ

واحتوانا ضالُهم والسلَم

We descended into Wadi Sulam

Taken by their misguidance and the ladder

يا رعى الله قباباً بقِباً

عادها عادت ورامت إرم

O Allah, protect this land dome after dome

Rebuild what was destroyed and intended harm

وسقى ثَمَّ لويلاتٍ بها

لم يَضِمْني في هواها إِضَم

Then he irrigated with the woes of Laylatul

He did not assure me of her love, I was not embraced

أيها النازل في كاظمةٍ

لي لسان فيك حيٌّ وفم

O you who reside in Kazima

I have a tongue about you, alive and with speech

بثَّ للجيرة عني شغفاً

لم يزل بين الحشى يضطرم

Whisper to Layla my passion

Which remains burning inside me

وتنصَّت للغواني سحراً

ربما هاجك ذاك النغم

And bewitch the singing women in the morning

Sometimes that melody excites you

واستمع صوت حماماتِ اللوى

عندما تأتي عليها الظُلَم

And listen to the voice of the doves of Luwa

When darkness comes over them

هذه النشأة فيها عِبَرٌ

للورى عنها تضيق الكلم

This life has lessons

The words for people are too narrow to express

وثياب الكون شفت فشفت

مهجةً للبعد فيما ألم

I saw the universe's clothes rend

A wound for distance and pain

صوت دفِّ الجسم عالٍ وبه

نفخ ناي الروح لا ينكتم

The sound of the drum of the body is loud and in it

Is the breath of the reed flute not concealed

وشجانا رقص بانات النقى

حين غنَّتها الصَبا والديم

Our intoxication danced the daughters of chastity

When youth and always sang to them

حيث كاسات الهوى دائرة

ويَلي كلَّ وجودٍ عدم

Where the cups of love encircle

And non-existence comes after every existence

ونسيم الأمر فينا عابق

وأزاهير الربا تبتسم

The breeze of the matter smelled sweet in us

And the flowers of the Lord smile

والحمى طلقٌ وأصحاب الحمى

لم يزالوا فيه والقوم هم

The fever is unleashed and the people of fever

Still have it and those people are them

والذي قد كان لا زال على

ما به كان وتلك النعم

What was is still what it was with

The blessings it had and those favors

غير أن القلب لا قلب له

وذووا الأفكار صموا وعموا

Except the heart has no heart

And those with ideas are deaf and blind

لو أزيلت عن عيون حجبٌ

وتنحّى عن قلوب وهَم

If the veils were removed from their eyes

And worries receded from their hearts

لرأوا الجهل الذي حف بهم

وعلت منهم إليه همم

They would see the ignorance surrounding them

And from it their ambitions mounted

وبدا الكل غروراً عندهم

ولودّوا أنهم ما علموا

Everything seemed vain to them

And they gave birth though they knew not

لكن الوسواس قد آيسهم

أن منهم ليس تحيى الرمم

But suspicion had disappointed them

That none of them could mend the cracks

فتراهم وطّنوا أنفسهم

أن منهم ليس يرقى القدم

You see them think to themselves

That none of them could climb high

قد بذلت النصح يا قوم لكم

حسب جهدي فانجلى المنبهم

I gave you advice O people

According to my ability so the confused may understand

وشرحت الدين شرحاً واضحاً

بلسان ما اعتراه بَكَم

And I explained the religion clearly

With a tongue not inhibited by silence

وزجرت العيس منكم للسرى

فهمو أهل المعاني فهموا

And I deterred heedlessness among you towards deviance

So let the people of wisdom understand

نفع الله بما فهت به

وبما أسفر عنه القلم

May Allah benefit with what I clarified

And what the pen uncovered

وبخير ختم الأمر لنا

أننا للدين نحن الخدم

And conclude the matter well for us

That we are servants of the religion

ولأهل الأرض طراً ولمن

بالتقى تحفظ منه الذمم

And virtuous to the people of earth and those

Who dignity is maintained through piety

وصلاة الله مني دائماً

مع سلام منه لا ينصرم

And Allah's prayer is always upon me

With peace from Him that will not cease

لنبي الله طه المصطفى

ما توالى من إلهي كرم

Upon Allah's Prophet Taha Al-Mustafa

However continuous divine generosity is
