لم أزل في الحب يا أملي

أخلط التوحيد بالغزلِ

I have not ceased loving you, O my hope

I mix monotheism with love poetry

وعيوني فيك ساهرة

دمعها كالصيب الهطل

And my eyes in you are sleepless

Their tears like heavy rain

ليت لي من نور طلعتكم

لمحةً كي تنطفي غللي

If only I had from the light of your sunrise

A glimpse, so my anguish may be extinguished

إن أحشائي بكم تلفت

بل وجسمي في الغرام بَلي

Indeed my insides for you writhe

Even my body in love is twisted

واصطباري يوم جفوتكم

زال والتهيام لم يزل

And my patience the day you were aloof

Vanished, and the swooning did not cease

جد لعيني باللقاء ولو

في الكرى يا غاية الأمل

Show my eyes a meeting even

In dreams, O ultimate hope

وتلطف بالمشوق ودع

ذا الجفا واعطف وجُد وصِل

And be gentle with longing and leave

This aloofness, show tenderness, be affectionate and join

وأبح مضناك بعض لقا

يا شفا قلبي من العلل

And confide some of your distress for a meeting

O cure of my heart from illnesses

يا منى هذا الفؤاد ويا

بغيتي يا كلَّ متكلي

O object of desire of this heart, O

My sought wish, O all my reliance

يا ضيا شمسي إذا طلعت

في الضحى مني وفي الطَفَل

O light of my sun when you rise

In the morning from me and from the horizon

يا مرادي حين قلت ويا

جلَّ قصدي حين لم أقل

O my purpose when I said "O" and

My highest aim when I did not say

خذ أماناً من قلاك لنا

إننا منه على وجل

Take a pledge from your mouth for us

We are from it anxious and hesitant

ثم كن فيما يكون كما

كنت في أيامك الأُوَل

Then be in what will be as you were

In your first days

ذا التجافي كم أكابده

آهِ قلَّت في الهوى حيلي

This estrangement, how much I endure it

Alas, few are my tricks in love

والذي أهواه مشتمل

من ملاح الكون في حلل

And the one I love is perfect

Among the sailors of the universe in robes

وسرت من نحو كاظمة

نسمة فيها انمحى طللي

And the breeze of the concealed blew

In it my anguish disappeared

وبروق الحي لامعة

حان لما أومضت أجلي

And the lightning of life gleaming

The time for my life to flash has come

هذه الأكوان أجمعها

شمَّةٌ من وردة الأزل

These universes altogether

Are a whiff from the flower of eternity

عطرتني عندما نفحت

ما أنا عنها بمشتغل

It scented me when it blew

I am not distracted from it

طيب أثواب المليح بدا

فائحاً من جانب الكلل

The scent of the beautiful's clothes appeared

Fragrant from the side of perfection

وثغور الزهر قد بسمت

من روابي أشرف الرسل

And the flowers' mouths smiled

From the hills of the most noble Messenger

يا عذولاً لامني سفهاً

أنا لا أصغي إلى العَذَل

O blame me foolishly, I do not listen

To pointless blaming

قلبي المضنى حليف جوىً

عن هوى الغزلان لم يَحُل

My suffering heart is loyal to passion

It did not solve to love gazelles

مغرم صب بذي عظم

جلَّ عن علمي وعن عملي

Passionate love for the magnificent

Beyond my knowledge and my deeds

ما له في الخلق من شبه

ما له في الأمر من مثل

He has no likeness among creatures

No equal in command

جل عن قولي أجلُّ وعن

كل خاف لي وكل جلي

Exalted beyond my words, most Sublime

Beyond all my fears and terrors

ذو اتصال غير متصل

وانفصال غير منفصل

Of continuous connection without connection

And separation without being separated

لم يمل عن أمره أحد

دائماً في سائر الملل

None has tired of His affair, ever

In all times

غير أن الأمر منقسم

للصواب المحض والزلل

Except that the command is divided

Into sheer truth and mistakes

وانقسام الأمر يظهر في

مقتضى أشخاصه السفل

And the division of the command appears

In the requirement of its lower individuals

وهو في العلياء واحده

قبل أن يبدو لذي مقل

And it is one in the most high

Before it appears to the owner of decline

هذه أبهى ملابسنا

حلة زرَّت على بطل

This is the most splendid of our robes

A garment sown for a hero

لم نفصلها لغير فتى

عزمه خالٍ من الكسل

We did not detail it except for a gallant

Whose resolve is free of laziness

خمرة منها النهى سكرت

شربة أحلى من العسل

A wine from which prohibition intoxicated

A draft sweeter than honey

فاقبلونا يا أحبتنا

وابشروا بالمنزل الجلل

So welcome us, O our loved ones

And give glad tidings of the magnificent abode
