ما يُؤمَنُ المَرءُ الَّذي باتَ طاعِما
وَباتَ عَلى ظَهرِ الفِراشِ المُمَهَّدِ
The man who has spent the night well fed cannot be trusted,
though he has lain upon a well-prepared bed,
جِنايَةَ مِثلِ السيدِ يُصبِحُ طاوِياً
وَيَأوي إِلى جُرثومَةٍ لَم تُوَسَّدِ
not to commit a crime like the wolf’s—the wolf wakes hollow-bellied
and takes shelter in an earthen lair no pillow has softened.
