فَأَبلِغ لَدَيكَ بَني مالِكٍ

فَأَنتُم بِأَنبائِنا أَخبَرُ

So convey to the tribe of Malik

That you are more knowledgeable of our news

فَأَمّا النَخيلُ فَلَيسَت لَنا

نَخيلٌ تُسَقّى وَلا تُؤبَرُ

As for palm trees, we have none

Watered palm trees or those pollinated

وَلَكِنَّ جَمعاً كَجِذلِ الحِكا

كِ فيهِ المُقَنَّعُ وَالحُسَّرُ

But a group like a worn out leather bucket

With holes here and patches there

مَغاويرُ تَحمِلُ أَبطالَنا

إِلى المَوتِ ساهِمَةٌ ضُمَّرُ

Raids that carry our heroes

To death, destined and shrouded

وَأَعدَدتُ لِلحَربِ خَيفانَةً

تُديمُ الجِراءَ إِذا تَخطِرُ

And I prepared for war a strong she-camel

Who persists when danger comes

صَنيعاً كَقارورَةِ الزَعفَرا

نِ مِمّا تُصانُ وَلا تُؤثَرُ

A creation like an empty bottle

Protected yet neglected

إِذا شاءَ أَربابُها لَم يَزَل

خِضابٌ بِلَبَّتِها أَحمَرُ

Whenever its owners desire, it yields

Red dye in its resin

يُصادُ اِعتِباطاً عَلَيها الظَلي

مُ في القَطرِ وَالفَرَأُ الأَقمَرُ

Hunted randomly, the shaded one upon it

In drizzle and fair, bright moon
