تَراهُ إِذا ما جئتهُ مُتَهَلِّلاً
كَأَنَّكَ مُعطيهِ الَّذي أَنتَ سائِلُه
When you come to him, humbly,
He seems as though you're the giver and he the asker.
كَريمٌ إِذا جِئت لِلعُرفِ طالِباً
حَباكَ بِما تَحنو عَلَيهِ أَنامِلُه
Noble is he, when you come seeking favor,
He loves you for the care you show to him.
وَلَو لَم يَكُن في كَفِّهِ غَيرُ نَفسِهُ
لَجادَ بِها فَليَتَّقِ اللَّهَ سائِلُه
Had he naught but himself in his possession,
He would give it. So let the asker beware of God.
