Drink the cup, Nasir, and pass it here!
For truly, this day counts among my good deeds.
My father be ransom for my radiant delight—you can see a person in her,
with a clarity clearer than a mirror.
She sends people hurrying toward her in a crush,
like the pilgrims thronging at Arafat.
Pass her here, Nasir; we have gathered
with hearts divided in matters of faith.
We are here only for gatherings of merriment:
we drink the wine, and then you fall in with us.
And when the wine-jars have run dry amid the revelry,
we make our way to the places of prayer.
If all our lifetime passed without wine or revelry,
we would count that among our sins.
