نَطَقَت عَن أَشنَبٍ فيهِ خمرٌ

برضابِ الشَّهدِ فيهِ تُشَعشع

It spoke of a jug wherein is wine,

By the plashing of honey wherein is splash;

وَعَلى الأَشنَبِ بابا عَقِيقٍ

يَحفَظانِ الدُرَّ بِأَن لا يُضَيَّع

And upon the jug a seal of musk -

Two guards keeping the pearl that it be not lost.

تحتَ قِفلٍ مِن الزُمُرُّدِ يَحكي

شارِبَ الأَمرَدِ عِندَ التَّرعرُع

Under a lock of emeralds telling

Of him who drinks the ruby at the rinsing.
