ثَوائي وَتَقيِيدي بِحُجرٍ لَيالِيا
I care not if the son of Bozal survives,
My imprisonment by night with stone chains,
إِذا حُمَّ أَمرٌ فَهوَ لا بُدَّ واقِعٌ
لَهُ لا أُبالي ما عَلَيَّ وَلا لِيا
When a matter becomes inevitable,
It must happen, I care not what befalls me.
هُوَ العَسَلُ الماذِيُّ طَوراً وَتارَةً
هُوَ السُمُّ وَالذيفانُ وَاللَيثُ عادِيا
He is honey at times, and poison at others,
Both raging lion and gentle fawn,
حَلَفتُ لَها أَن قَد وَجِدتُ مِنَ الهَوى
أَخا المَوتِ لا بِدعاً وَلا مُتَآسِيا
I swore to her that in love I found,
A brother of death, no pretender, no impostor.
