ما لِسَلمى تَجَنَّبَت

وَصلَنا اليَومَ مالَها

What is it with Salma? She has shunned

our union today—what is it with her?

كَم دَلالٍ تَدَلَّلَت

وَاِحتَملنا دَلالَها

How very coyly she has played the coy!

And we have borne her coyness.

وَصلُ سَلمى هُوَ المُنى

لَو رُزِقنا وِصالَها

Union with Salma is all we desire—

if only we were granted union with her.
