عَرَفتُ المَنزِلَ الخالي

Every affectionate one pardoned it

The seasons of affliction poured down

لِسَلمى قُرَّةِ العَينِ

وَبِنتِ العَمِّ وَالخالِ

For Salma, delight of my eye

And daughter of uncle and aunt

بَذَلتُ اليَومَ في سَلمى

خِطاراً أَتلَفَت مالي

Today I spent on Salma

Risks that exhausted my money

كَأَنَّ الريقَ مِن فيها

سَحيقٌ بَينَ جِريالِ

As if the saliva in her mouth

Was pouring between white teeth
