أُشهِدُ اللَهَ وَالمَلائِكَةَ الأَبْ

رار وَالعابِدينَ أَهلَ الصَلاحِ

I bear witness before God and the righteous angels

And the worshippers, people of virtue

أَنَّني أَشتَهي السَماعَ وَشُربَ الرْ

راحِ وَالعَضَّ في خُدودِ المَلاحِ

That I long to hear music and drink wine

And to bite the cheeks of the juicy fruits

وَالنَديمَ الكَريمَ وَالخادِمَ الفا

رِهِ يَسعى عَلَيَّ بِالأَقداحِ

And to have a generous drinking companion and a servant

Who runs to serve me drinks

يَفهَمُ الوَحيَ وَالإِشارَةَ بِالكَف

فِ وَيَصبو إِلى هُبوبِ الرِياحِ

Who understands hints and signs with just a wink

And pours liberally as the winds blow

وَظَريفَ الحَديثِ وَالكاعِبَ الطِف

لَةَ تَختالُ في سُموطِ الوِشاحِ

And a witty conversationalist and a playful teaser

Swaying in the trailing robes
