طَرَقَتني وَصِحابي هُجوعٌ
ظَبيَةٌ أَدماءُ مِثلُ الهِلالِ
A shy doe with friends alarmed,
Bloody red like the crescent moon,
مِثلُ قَرنِ الشَمسِ لَمّا تَبَدَّت
وَاِستَقَلَّت في رُؤوسِ الجِبالِ
Like the horn of the sun when it rises
And ascends over the mountain tops.
تَقطَعُ الأَهوالَ نَحوي وَكانَت
عِندَنا سَلمى أُلوفَ الحِجالِ
It cuts through the terrors towards me, and was
For us a peace amongst the numerous wars.
كَم أَجازَت نَحوَنا مِن بِلادٍ
وَحشَةٍ قَتّالَةٍ لِلرِّجّالِ
How much it has crossed towards us from lands
Wild, murderous to men.
