1. وَإِنَّ عَلى شاطي الفُراتِ لَفِتيَةً

    يَوَدّونَ لَو كانوا بِمالِهِمُ اِفتَدوا

    On the banks of the Euphrates are maidens

    Who wish they could ransom themselves with their wealth

  2. حَدَونا وَساقونا فَنَحنُ كَما تَرى

    نَسوقُ كَما ساقوا وَنَحدوا كَما حَدوا

    They have sharpened us and led us, so as you see

    We lead as they led, and sharpen as they sharpened
