Turn the cup gently to the right,
Do not turn it to the left instead.
Pour this one and pour that one,
For the lively lute player.
From an ancient jar they unsealed,
Preserved for ages in vessels.
Sealed with musk, camphor and agar,
My friend, bring it closer to me.
Pour for Abdela without pride,
And for Ibn Harb also pour.
Cover us both in robes,
For I know I am not for hellfire.
I will tame people until,
They ride the donkey’s faith.
And leave those who seek paradise,
Struggling fruitlessly ahead.
