رث يا دهر ثوبنا فعرينا

ولبسنا القميص صبراً جميلا

Time has worn our garment and left us naked

We have worn the shirt of patience beautifully

وكتمنا آلامنا وسكتنا

ومنعنا عيوننا ان تسيلا

We have concealed our pains and kept silent

And prevented our eyes from tearing

قد قنعنا في أرض لبنان بالم

اء زلالاً وبالنسيم عليلا

We have been content in the land of Lebanon with pain

As fresh water and with gentle breeze

وترانا كأننا ما حملنا ال

يأس حياً ولا الرجاء قتيلا

And you see us as though we have not carried

Despair alive, nor hope slain

وكأن الليل الذي قد سهرنا

ه جياعاً ما كان ليلاً طويلا

And as though the night we have stayed up

Hungry was no long night

وكأن البغي الذي قد حملنا

ه زماناً ما كان حملاً ثقيلا

And as though the injustice we have carried

For a time was no heavy burden

قد رضينا بكل ذا منك يا ده

ر فحاذر أن تبتغي المستحيلا

We have been content with all this from you, O time

So beware not to seek the impossible

الفتى عندنا يموت ظليماً

وعديماً ولا يموت ذليلا

The youth according to us dies wrongfully

And deprived, and does not die disgraced
