    يا بنت حكمته وام صغاره

    My homeland defenders, answer the call to arms

    O daughter of wisdom and mother of youth

  2. ردي عليه رجاله فرجاله

    غلمان دارك لا شيوخ دياره

    Return to it its men, for its men

    Are the young lions not old men of homes

  3. الناشئون على عبادة ارزه

    يتعلمون الموت تحت شعاره

    They grow up worshipping its cedars

    Learning to die beneath its banner

  4. هم ريق الأمل الذي يحيا به

    والموت يضرب سيفه بجواره

    They are the sap that gives it life

    While death brandishes its sword nearby

  5. أمل به استبقى نضارة روضه

    وبليل رياه وصدح هزاره

    Hope in it preserved the bloom of its meadows

    And the night grazing and echoing of its valleys

  6. فهي المراتع ما عهدت ونجدها

    في آبه كالسفح في آذاره

    So its pastures remained as we knew them

    In summer like slopes in spring

  7. خلعت يد الباري عليها حلةً

    من مثل ما خلعت على اخداره

    The hand of the Creator adorned it with a robe

    Like He adorned its neighbors

  8. ثوبٌ يغار عليؤه خالقه فلا

    يرضى بمد يدٍ إلى أزراره

    A garment its Maker is jealous to protect

    Not pleased if a hand reaches for its buttons

  9. ثوبٌ تمرّ به القرون ووشيه

    ذو جدَّةٍ فكأنه ابن نهاره

    A lasting garment, generations pass as it endures

    Made new as if born yesterday

  10. ضافٍ يجرّ على الجبال ذيوله

    والبرق يلمع من خلال صداره

    Billowing, dragging its train on the mountains

    With lightning flashing through its breast

  11. والأرز من شاراته وحديثه

    ما قال ربك عنه في أسفاره

    The cedars are its motifs and legends

    What your Lord said of it in scriptures

  12. طافت ملائكة السماء بدوحه

    وحنت مباسمها على أزهاره

    Angels circled its convent and smiled

    Upon its flowers and strolled chanting

  13. ومشى مرتلها يغنيه بما

    غناه داودٌ على قيثاره

    What David sang to his lyre

    If Lebanon is not the Creator’s paradise

  14. ان لم يكن لبنان جنة خالق

    الدنيا يكن لبنان شرفة داره

    It is the terrace of His abode

    From it houris gaze drunk without tasting

  15. منه تطل الحور سكرى وهي لم

    ترشف سوى السلسال من أنهاره

    Aught but the dripping of its rivers

    Scents of basil waft on its breezes

  16. فتناسم الفواح من ريحانه

    وتغازل الصداح من أطياره

    And birds flirt and chirp in its air

    Before it a waterfall cascading

  17. وحيالها شلاله متدفقاً

    والكوثر الفوار من فواره

    With the abundant Kawthar of its springs

    And the murmuring cool of its brooks

  18. ولجين برودنيه مترقرقاً

    والكرم يضحك عن نضيد نضاره

    As the vines laugh with ripening fruit

    The moon peers from behind its peaks

  19. والبدر من خلف الهضاب كأنه

    وجه المليحة لاح خلف إزاره

    Like the beautiful face gleaming from behind its veil

    God praise this consecrated mountain

  20. اللَه للجبل المفدى مجتنى

    ثمر النعيم ومجتلى أنواره

    Fruit of bliss and place of holy light

    In the melodies of its cliffs and gray hair

  21. وبمقلتي صنينه ومشيبه

    يملي على الأجيال آي وقاره

    It recites its solemn scripture to generations

    In the breaths of its zephyrs, sanctity

  22. وبمهجتي نفحاته قدسيةً

    تقصي عن المصدور طيف بواره

    Dispelling the specter of its dusty ills

    People visit even as life departs

  23. يرتادها والعمر في آصاله

    فترده والعمر في أسحاره

    Restored as life renews at dawn

    Lebanon, sanctuary of life and fortress

  24. لبنان منتجع الحياة ومعقلٌ

    تتزحلق الآفات عن أسواره

    Which contagions slide from its walls

    Where the trailing clouds pour down blessings

  25. ويزل ساري الغيم من شرفاته

    متبركاً منه بلثم جداره

    Made holy by kissing its stones

    If the glory of Hermon is troubled

  26. ان روع الحدثان مهجة شوفه

    بمكارهٍ تغشاه تلو مكاره

    By repeated afflictions

    Longing escapes in its glory

  27. فالشوق عنه يستقل بروعه

    والشوف عنه يستقل بعاره

    While hardship escapes in its shame

    Woe, sustenance is scarce

  28. يا ويحه والرزق ضاق سبيله

    والجار غير مؤمنٍ من جاره

    And the neighbor no friend to his neighbor

    Woe, the meadow withered losing its bloom

  29. يا ويحه والروض جف نضيره

    لما جنى الجاني على أكاره

    When the offenders reaped its fruits

    If Fakhr al-Din saw its state

  30. لو جاء فخر الدين يشهد حاله

    لبكى عليه وجدَّ في استنكاره

    He would weep and protest in disbelief

    Or if news reached the tomb of Shehab

  31. أو رددت أخبار ما فيه على

    قبر الشهاب لضج من أخباره

    He would roar from his grave

    Say to Saffa and the pine groves

  32. قل للصفا ومسامع الصفصاف ما

    ثلةٌ عليه تنال من أسراره

    What a vile brood assails its mystique

    Those called its sons shunned Saffa

  33. إن البنين بنيه قد عافوا الصفا

    من عيشهم ولووا على أكداره

    From their lives and blamed its sanctuary

    Shunning bounty and coolness

  34. وتجنبوا نفس النعيم وبرده

    ميلاً إلى نفس الجحيم وناره

    Inclining to hellfire and heat

    When did you find a land wronged by the innocent

  35. ومتى تجد بلداً يُضام بريئه

    قل ان ربك قد قضى بدماره

    God ordained its destruction

    Fate avenges, not the one who spilled blood

  36. والدهر يعرف كيف يثأر لا الذي

    سفك الدماءَ وضلَّ موضع ثاره

    Losing the place of his revenge

    Pity Al Shouf the noble laid low

  37. اسفي على الشوف العزيز يذله

    أشراره بغياً على أخياره

    By its wicked against its righteous

    Its foolish mocking its wise men

  38. اربى على أدبائه سفهاؤه

    وعبيدهُ ظهروا على أحراره

    Its slaves lording over its freemen

    Minds wavering in its retreats

  39. فتضعضع العقال في خلواته

    وتحير الرهبان في أدياره

    Hermits confused in monasteries

    Pity it, playground of my youth

  40. اسفي عليه وهو ملعب صبوتي

    ومقيل غسان الشباب الفاره

    Home of Ghassan’s fiery steeds

    Vanity clouded its clear rose

  41. عبث الغرور به فكدر ورده

    الصافي ونكر طيبات عراره

    And fouled its aromatic plains

    Grief for this plight drew my elegy

  42. وأعارني نوح الحمام لموقف

    كنت الخليق له بصدح كناره

    Worthy of its valley’s echo

    A sigh from one who stumbled

  43. هي زفرة من عاثر افضى بها

    الوطن الشجي إلى مقيل عثاره

    Poured by the ardent homeland to the ear of the heedless friend

    A homeland crying for its youth whenever

  44. وطن يضج إلى الشبيبة كلما

    التمس المقذف من حماة ذماره

    It seeks defenders against the aggressor

    O sanctuary of poetry, guide

  45. أي معهد الأدب النضير ومهتدى

    ذهن الصغير ومغتذى افكاره

    Of the young mind, fulfilling its thoughts

    Excuse the mourning that passed as your

  46. عذراً لبارحة تمر وعيدك

    الذهبي وضاءٌ على أقماره

    Golden feast shone on its moons

    I am one who sees Lebanon above his life

  47. أنا من يرى لبنان فوق حياته

    ويرى منار النجم دون مناره

    And the gleam of its star above its minaret

    I see Fakhr al-Din ransomed all of Lebanon

  48. ويرى فدى لبنان كل قطينه

    من مرد فتيته إلى أحباره

    From its rebels to its monks

    I am one who sees pride in kissing its soil

  49. أنا من يرى فخراً بلثم ترابه

    ويود بالاجفان مسح غباره

    And wishes to wipe its dust with eyelids

    I am a verse inscribed in its rock

  50. أنا آيةٌ منقوشةٌ في صخره

    وشرارةٌ مطبوعةٌ بغراره

    And a spark stamped by its flint
