    Where is Fakhr al-Din? The guest is a prince

    Who found refuge in great Lebanon

  2. أين رب الغدن الراسي على

    صدر بيت الدين ضواً للسدير

    Where is the lord of generosity residing

    On the breast of the House of Faith glowing with embers

  3. يصدر الأمر بإعداد اللهى

    وبساط الخز والمهد الوثير

    Commanding preparation of festivities

    And the feast's carpet and plentiful gifts

  4. إن مصراً عرفت أولادها

    أكرم الأضياف في ظل بشير

    Egypt has always known her sons

    As the most generous hosts in Bashir's shade

  5. خففي لومك يا جارتنا

    واقنعي للضيف منا باليسير

    Go easy blaming our neighbor

    And accept from us, for the guest, the little we can offer

  6. فالذي أنزلَ ابراهيمَ في

    قصره أمسى نزيلاً في حفير

    He who yesterday hosted Abraham

    In his palace, today dwells in a grave

  7. حال ذاك العز ذلاً ومضى

    بالسرير الدهر مع رب السرير

    That former glory turned to humility and passed

    Along with the fate of the Master of Fate

  8. كبرت القابنا لكنها

    ألقيت كبرى على كل صغير

    Our titles grew great but

    Each cast its shadow over the lowly and small

  9. فاقنعي يا مصر بالباقي لنا

    يجتليه ابنك نزراً من كثير

    Be content, Oh Egypt, with what's left for us

    To be illuminated by your son with some light

  10. أي أمير الشعر لا تجزع فما

    غير الدهر بنا غير العشير

    Oh prince of poetry, do not despair

    For nothing changes us but time

  11. هو ذا لبنان ما تشهده

    حافظاً نعمة باريه القدير

    Preserving the gifts of its Mighty Creator

    Your poetry is ransomed by the soul

  12. يفتدى شعرك بالروح وما

    الروح فيه غير ريا وخرير

    And the soul holds nothing but ideals and inspiration

    Your life is ransomed by the snow in its echo

  13. وفداك الثلج في صنينه

    وفداك الأرز والماء النمير

    Your life ransomed by the cedars and pure water

    Your life ransomed by the warbling nightingale

  14. وفداك البلبل الصداح في

    منحنى واديه والظبي الغرير

    In the valley's curve, and the shy gazelle

    May God grant you life, whenever

  15. عمرك اللَه أما ناجيته

    تستمد الوحي منه للضمير

    You seek inspiration to guide the conscience

    From its clarity when the threads

  16. من ضحاه عندما تلقي على

    نهره الصافي خيوطاً كالحرير

    Of sunlight fall on its pure stream

    Its aroma when the morning breeze

  17. وشذاه عندما تغدو الصبا

    ولها بين روابيه زفير

    Stirs softly through its branches

    Its tranquility when the shining

  18. ودجاه عندما يحسرها

    نجمه اللامع والبدر المنير

    Moon and bright stars uncover it

    Give us, Oh Shouki, what you were inspired by

  19. هات يا شوقي ما ألهمته

    إن في لبناننا وحياً كثير

    For in our Lebanon is ample inspiration

    Blessed is the summer, even if

  20. حبذا الصيف ولو مرت به

    غفلات الدهر كالحلم القصير

    The oblivions of fate pass through it like a fleeting dream

    And may God protect the emigrant, whenever

  21. ورعى اللَه هجيراً كلما

    زار مصراً زارنا صيفٌ خطير

    He visits Egypt, he brings us an eventful summer

    Lebanon, despite its loyalty, nearly

  22. كاد لبنان على رغم الوفا

    يشتهي لو دام في مصر الهجير

    Yearned for prolonged absence in Egypt

    So the splendid festival lasts

  23. فيطول المهرجان المجتلى

    حول من أزرى باقران جرير

    Around the one who supported the likes of Jarir

    A festival I wish would never end

  24. مهرجانٌ ليته لا ينقضي

    قبل ان يدركني يومي الأخير

    Before my final day arrives

    Oh State of Poetry, plead for what faded

  25. دولة الشعر استجدي ما بلي

    واستعيدي بهجة العيش النضير

    And regain the joy of an equal life

    The rhymes pledged allegiance to their Shouki

  26. ألقوافي بايعت شوقيها

    ومشى منها على الشرق بشير

    Who then toured the East like a joyous messenger

    Stirring the Arabs in their lands

  27. فاستثار العرب في أصقاعهم

    لدعاءٍ شق أكباد الأثير

    To pray—prayers that tore open sincere hearts

    Live long, Oh Prince of the Greatest State

  28. عش أمير الدولة العظمى على

    عرشها العالي لك اللَه نصير

    God is your helper and guardian

    And if you appoint ministers for the state

  29. ومتى استوزرت للدولة لا

    تنس لبنان يكن منه وزير

    Do not forget Lebanon, make one a minister from it
