شكوني إليها انني بت ليلتي

أقامرُ من دوني ويبتزُّ أموالي

I complained to her that I spent my night

With moons other than me seizing my wealth

فما راعها تضييع مالي وصحتي

كما راعها ملهاي مع غير امثالي

Yet she did not care for the loss of my money and health

As she cared for my enjoyment with others unlike me

ولما رأتني رصع الدمع خدها

وذابت لآليه على نحرها الحالي

And when she saw me with tears streaming down my cheek

And melting for the present state of my situation

وقالت لقد اسهرتني الليل مثلما

سهرت ولكن أين حالك من حالي

She said "I too stayed up at night like you

But where is your state compared to mine?"

لقد مر بي ليلي وهمي مساوري

وانت خليٌ لاعبٌ ناعمُ البالِ

My night has passed with worries as my companions

While you are free, relaxed and carefree

بكيتُ دماً لما أتاني مخبرٌ

بان حبيبي جالسٌ بين انذال

I cried blood when the messenger informed me

That my beloved is sitting amongst villains

فما أنا من تهواك إلا لانها

تراكَ أبيَّ النفس ذا خلق عالِ

I only crave you because she sees you

As the most refined soul with sublime morals

يهونُ عليّ المالُ حين تضيعه

قماراً ولكن لا تقامر بآمالي

Money matters little when gambled away

But do not gamble with my hopes
