ناموا فكلُّ المجد في ذا المنام

بين السوافي تحت دمع الغمام

They slept, so all glory in that sleep

Between the blades under the tears of the clouds

ان يجعلوا الرمل لكم مرقداً

ويفرشوا للغير ريشَ النعام

That they make the sand your grave

And furnish others with ostrich feathers

فحظكم في عيشكم مثله

في موتكم يقضي بهذا النظام

So your fortune in your life is like it

In your death this system applies

قد كنتم أولى بذاك الرخام

وغيركم أولى بهذا الرغام

You deserved that marble

And others deserved this pebbles

بل كنتم أولى بان تسلموا

ونحن أولى منكم بالحمام

But you deserved to be saved

And we deserve more than you the pigeons

فما الذي يرجى وقد أُوحشت

أوطاننا من مصلحيها الكرام

So what is to be hoped when

Our homelands are deserted by their generous people

ونحن في جيلٍ عداهُ الوفا

ملون الوجه ضعيف الذمام

And we are in a generation that loyalty has avoided

Multi-faced, weak-minded

يكرعُ من جامات أفراحه

في وطن يشقى وأهل يُضام

Drinking from the cups of joy

In a country that suffers and people are wronged

جدتم بأرواحٍ له وهو لم

يجد عليكم بضريح يُقام

You strove with souls for it and it

Did not erect for you a shrine

يا ضيعة الأرواح أرواحكم

في أُمةٍ أخلاقها في سقام

Oh you wasted souls, your souls

In a nation whose morals are diseased

في أُمة مشيتها قهقري

كأنَّ عينيها لغير الأَمام

In a nation whose path is regressive

As if its eyes see not the future

تقرعها أنباءُ سفَّاحها

ينعم بالعيش عزيز المقام

The news of its butchers knocks it

Prospering, of high status

جمال باشا يا سماءُ اشهدي

ينزل في الغرب بظل السلام

Descends in the west in the shade of peace

ينزل في الغرب عزيزاً فيا

لبنان سطر واذكري يا شآم

Descends in the west honored, so

Oh Lebanon record and remember oh Levant

جريمة للغرب لا تمحى

من مهجة الشرق ليوم القيام

A crime to the west not erased
