يا لِقَومي قَد أَرَّقَتني الهُمومُ

فَفُؤادي مِمّا يَجِنُّ سَقيمُ

O my people, cares have kept me awake,

So my heart is sick from what it bears.

أَندُبُ الحُبَّ في فُؤادي فَفيهِ

لَو تَراءى لِلناظِرينَ كُلومُ

I mourn love in my heart where, were it seen

By beholders' eyes, it would seem a wound.

ما لِذا الهَمِّ لا يَريمُ فُؤادي

مِثلَ ما يَلزَمُ الغَريمَ الغَريمُ

Why does this care not spare my heart,

As it persists with one in love, in love?

إِنَّ مَن فَرَّقَ الجَماعَةَ مِنّا

بَعدَ خَفضٍ وَنِعمَةٍ لَذَميمُ

He who split our group after lowering and grace

Is blamable indeed.
