نادَتكَ وَالعيسُ سِراعٌ بِنا
مَهبَطَ ذي دَورانَ فَالقاعِ
She called out to you as the pale camels sped us onward,
down from Dhū Dawarān, then into the open plain.
قالَت وَعَيناها تَجودانِها
صوحِبتَ وَاللَهُ هُوَ الراعي
She spoke while both her eyes streamed:
“May companionship attend you—and God is the guardian.
يا اِبنَ شُرَيحٍ لا تُضِع سِرَّنا
قَد كُنتَ عِندي غَيرَ مِضياعِ
O son of Shurayḥ, do not let our secret be lost;
I had known you as no one who lets things go to waste.”
لَو أَنَّها بيعَت لَأَغلَيتُها
وَيلي بِها سِلعَةَ مُبتاعِ
Had she been sold, I would have paid dearly for her—
woe is me for her, merchandise for a buyer!
