كادَهُ الأَشرَمُ الَّذي جاءَ بِالفي
لِ فَوَلّى وَجَيشُهُ مَهزومُ
The insolent man who came with the elephant army
Turned and fled, his forces routed,
وَاِستَهَلَّت عَلَيهِمُ الطَيرُ بِالجَن
دَلِ حَتّى كَأَنَّهُ مَرجومُ
The birds began to prey on them,
Pecking the bodies as if pelting them with stones.
ذاكَ مَن يَغزُهُ الناسُ يَرجِع
وَهوَ فَلٌّ مِنَ الجُيوشِ ذَميمُ
Thus is the fate of one whom the people attack—
He flees despised, his great army brought low.
