Al-Hulayfa is water I am not its raft

Along with the praise that I was told comes to it

Neither has God made its present easy for favors

Nor will it cease being turbid as long as its herders live

So how many valiant heroes have we trod it with

And how much booty have we taken, challenging for it

When the horses returned it galloping with lowered heads

To the points of the lances dripping its sides
