1. بَكَتْ أُمُّ بِشْرٍ أَنْ تَبَدَّدَ رَهْطُهَا

    وأَنْ أَصْبَحُوا مِنْهُمْ شَرِيدٌ وهَالِكُ

    The mother of Bishr wept that her people were scattered,

    And that some of them had become lost and destroyed.

  2. فَإِنَّ كِلاَ حَيَّيْكِ مِنْهُمْ بَقِيَّةٌ

    لَوَ أَنَّ المَنَايَا حَالُهَا مُتَمَاسِكُ

    Yet both your clans remain, though diminished,

    As if death had not diminished their bonds.

  3. كِلاَبٌ وكَعْبٌ لاَ يَبِيتُ أَخُوهُمُ

    ذَلِيلاً ولاَ تُعْيِي عَلَيْهِ المَسَالِكُ

    Both dogs and partridges, their brothers night not,

    Debased, nor do the roads wear them out.
