تُقَدَّمُ قَيْسٌ كُلَّ يَوْمِ كَرِيهَةٍ

ويُثْنَى عَلَيْهَا في الرَّخَاءِ ذُنُوبُهَا

Every wretched day Qais is pushed forward,

And in prosperity his sins are recited.

وأَعْمَدُ مِنْ قَوْمٍ كَفَاهُمْ أَخُوهُمُ

صِدَامَ الأَعَادِي حَيْثُ فُلَّتْ نُيُوبُهَا

And I rely on a people whose brother

Sufficed them, attacking enemies where their ranks were split.
