نفسي أحقُّ بشدّة الوجد

أبداً وأنتَ أحقُّ بالمجدِ

My soul deserves the intensity of passion

While you deserve glory forever

اللهُ يعلم والمعزُّ مُصَدِّقي

لو كان يُمْكن دفعُ ما يُرْدى

God knows and the Helper confirms me

If it were possible to prevent what is ordained

لجعلتُ نفسي جُنّةً عن نفسه

ووقيتُه صرفَ المَنَى وحدي

I would have made myself a shield for him

And protected him from the turns of fate alone

وبذلتُ ما عندي له من حجّة

وإن احتقرتُ له الذي عندي

And I would have given him whatever justification I had

Even if I belittled for him what I have
