سأَلْتُه قُبْلَةً يوما على عَجَلِ
فاحمرّ مِن خَجَلٍ واصفرّ مِن وَجَلِ
I asked him for a kiss one day in haste
He blushed from shyness and turned pale from fear
واعتلّ ما بين إسعافٍ يُرَقِّقه
وبين مَنْعٍ تَمادَى فِيه بالعِلل
And made excuses, torn between granting
My wish and refusing outright
وقال وجهِيَ بدرٌ لا خَفاءَ به
ومُبْصِر البدرِ لا يدعوه للقُبَلِ
He said, "My face is like the moon that hates
To be approached and kissed, even when near."
