لو رمتُ قطع ودادي فيك ما انقطعا

ولو رجعتُ فؤادِي عنك ما رجعا

If I cast my affection towards you, it won't be cut off

And if I brought back my heart from you, it won't return

إذا ذكرتك في سِرّ وفي عَلَنٍ

وجدتُ حبّك في قلبي قد انطبعا

When I remember you openly or secretly

I find your love engraved on my heart

هذا ولِي بعده حِفظٌ أُدِلّ به

ونسبةٌ تترك التفريقَ مجتمِعا

This is enough for me to preserve afterwards

A lineage that leaves unity instead of separation

ما لي إذا شئتُ لم أُعطَ المرادَ وإِن

تطلبتُ منك قَبولاً عزّ وامتنعا

Why is it that when I want, I am not given what I wish for

And if I sought acceptance from you, you refused haughtily

وإن شفعتُ لقِيتُ المنعَ منك وإن

أتاك غيري شفيعاً نال ما شَفَعا

And if I interceded, I faced refusal from you, yet if

Another intercedes for me, he gets what he interceded for

والله ما ليَ ذنبٌ أَستحِقّ به

ذا المنعَ منك ولا ذا الردَّ والشَنَعا

By Allah, I have no sin that makes me deserve

This refusal from you or this rejection and disdain from you

ولو تذكّرتُ ذنباً لانثنيت به

حتى أقطِّع قلبي تحته قِطعا

And if I recalled a sin, I would have been bent double by it

Until I cut up my heart underneath it into pieces

يا أكرمَ الخلقِ أخلاقاً ومَحْمِيَةً

وأشرفَ الناسِ أفعالاً ومصطَنعا

O most generous of people in morals and defender

And most noble of people in actions and helper

لا تسمعِ البغيَ من واشٍ يُزَيِّنُه

فالبغيُ ليس بمحمودٍ إذا سُمِعا

Do not listen to the slander from a fault-finder who beautifies it

Slander is not praiseworthy when it is heard

إِني وأنت كما قُدَّ الشِرَاكُ فلا

تقبل من الحاسدِين الزُورَ والخدَعا

You and I are like the pole of a tent so do not

Accept from the envious ones lies and fraud
